Cleveland, Ohio - MAC men's basketball teams Kent State and Akron have been chosen to participate in nationally televised games as part of the ESPNU BracketBusters on Saturday, February 20. The 11 televised match-ups were announced by ESPN on Monday night.
In televised contests involving MAC teams, Akron (15-6, 5-2 MAC) travels to Richmond, Va. to take on Colonial Athletic Association opponent Virginia Commonwealth (15-5, 7-4 CAA) at 4 p.m. on ESPNU. Kent State (14-7, 5-2 MAC) will host Southern Conference foe Western Carolina (17-5, 7-3 Southern) later that night at 8 p.m. on ESPNU. A charter member of the BracketBusters event (eighth season), the Mid-American Conference is one of only two conferences that has seen one of it's participating teams reach the Regional Final (Kent State in 2002; George Mason reached Final Four in 2006). Last year, two Mid-American Conference teams ( Miami and Buffalo) were featured in ESPN BracketBusters-branded games (contests aired on the TV package). Teams from the Mid-American Conference have posted a 12-16 record in ESPNU BracketBusters television games.
